On Saturday, Oct. 10 from 4–6 p.m., lawns and yards across Greater Longfellow are turning into tiny neighborhood stages, gathering spots, activity zones, and whatever else our neighbors came up with.
There will be live music, activities, art, and plenty of reasons to wander around the neighborhood and see what’s happening. Find a map of activities on the website.
This is the work of three neighbors (Christine, Anna, and Vanessa) who met through our volunteer work within the neighborhood. This is very much a grassroots project and a first for us. This isn't attached to a non-profit or organization, although the Longfellow Community Council is providing some marketing assistance to us (many thanks to the LCC ?). We just wanted to help make something cool happen for our neighborhood and we are hoping others want to help make that happen too!
Why "lawnfest" and not "porchfest" like in other neighborhoods across Minneapolis? Because Longfellow is a historic neighborhood of bungalows which don't have the large open air porches seen in other neighborhoods, but that doesn't mean we can't invite neighbors into our lawns and yards for some fun!
Longfellow Lawnfest looks to include a variety of activities, some potential ideas include:
Host acoustic musician for a small outdoor concert
Have an outdoor crafting activity
Invite folks over to learn about starting a food or native garden, using your yard as an example
Host story time or an open mic poetry reading
Have a dance party or host lawn games
