Roosevelt High School students protest

Posted

With signs like “I was teargased on school grounds” and “Our classmates live in fear,” Roosevelt High School students marched on Jan. 12, 2026. They went from the school building along 28th to 42nd and stood on the berm along Hiawatha Ave. before returning to the school building. On Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, Roosevelt was a chaotic scene when border patrol agents used chemical irritants on students and staff. A staff member was detained. This was after the shooting death of Renee Good at Portland and 35th earlier that day by ICE agent Jonathan Ross. Following the incident at Roosevelt, students in Minneapolis were off for two days and back to school on Monday, Jan. 12 with an online option. St. Paul is also offering an online option.
