FOLWELL SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL

Posted

Minneapolis Public Works is excited to announce that the South-Folwell Safe Routes to School project was the recipient of a MnDOT grant that provides funding for additional infrastructure improvements to be included with the project. This funding will add several key elements to the concept layout to increase safety along 21st Ave S and respond to feedback heard through the project’s community engagement. These additions include:
• A protected bikeway between the Midtown Greenway at E 28th St. and E Lake St.
• An expanded boulevard that provides space for trees and greening along the east side of 21st Ave S between E 29th St. and E Lake St.
• A new flashing crossing beacon at the intersection of E 35th St.
The project will now enter detailed engineering to finalize the design plans in preparation for construction in 2026. Additional updates will be provided when a more detailed construction schedule is available. Public Works will also contact adjacent residents and property owners ahead of the project construction.
The layout shows refinements to the concepts shared with the community at the open house last September and the new project elements made possible with the additional grant funding. Find the concept layout at www.minneapolismn.gov/government/projects/south-folwell.
