On Aug. 27, my two children hid under pews inside Annunciation Catholic Church as bullets tore through the air inches away. No child should ever have to wonder if they will be next.
Two children were killed and 28 were injured. This was not random. It was preventable.
This is not just a Minneapolis issue. It can happen in any community. Our children deserve the same urgency for safety that our elected officials and leaders expect in their own lives and workplaces. We are trying to move forward, but without real change, the trauma lingers, as it is only a matter of when, not if, this happens again to another Minnesota community.
As the Legislature considers gun violence prevention legislation this session, I urge our state leaders to act with urgency. What will it take to decide that children’s lives are worth more than inaction?
Sincerely,
Annie Feste, Kenny
