The Blind Date With Book Fundraser, held Jan. 3, 2026 at Mother Earth Gardens (3738 42nd Ave.), had a steady stream of patrons looking to support those impacted by ICE and find a new read. Books were donated and wrapped by community  members with a suggested minimum donation on each one. QR codes were provided for people to donate directly to the organization of their choice.Over 200 books were "sold," raising $3,714.

The event also featured bookmarks and stickers by local artists. One of the main organizers, Sadie Pelini, is the daughter of the owner of Mother Earth Garden.

Organizer Kat Lamp explained that this was a trial run to see how the event was recieved by the community, and there are hopes this will be the first of many similar fundraisers.  The next event is set for Sunday, Feb. 15 from 1-4 p.m. at Mother Earth Gardens.
