RISE (Rallying In Solidarity for Equity) set for Aug. 1

RISE (Rallying In Solidarity for Equity) returns for its fourth year to bring resources and connection to unhoused neighbors in South Minneapolis.

"We're proud to see this event return for a fourth year. Every August, RISE is a reminder of what our community can do when we show up for one another — and this year is no exception," say organizers. "It's important to us to keep showing up for our neighbors who are unhoused, uninsured, underinsured, or simply in need of a little extra care. Events like RISE reflect our belief that everyone in our community deserves dignity, support, and a helping hand, no matter their circumstances."

This year's event will offer a health fair, tents and sleeping bags, a clothing drive, a free community meal, harm reduction resources, and other supplies. "A huge thank you to Pizza Lucé, a generous sponsor of this year's event," say organizers. All are welcome to attend, volunteer, or donate to help make it a success.

SNG is collecting gently used clothing for RISE, happening August 1st at East Phillips Park. Clothing for all ages is needed, especially men's items. Drop off donations in the collection box at 2501 34th Ave S, or contact Ben Howery to arrange a pickup. Questions? Email howeryben@gmail.com.

"My name is Sophia Schillinger, and I'm SNG's health equity intern for summer '26, studying for a master's in public health at the University of Minnesota. This summer, one of my main projects has been helping organize RISE, one of SNG's biggest events," said Schillinger. "Now in its fourth year, RISE aims to increase resources, direct services, and networks for the unhoused population of South Minneapolis, and we're hoping to expand our reach this year through more partnerships and volunteers.

"That's where you come in! We're looking for volunteers for a variety of tasks on Aug.1. Shifts are just 1-2 hours, and your support makes a big impact. Sign up via SignUpGenius or contact Jasmine Epps at Jazzy61205@gmail.com to get involved."
