With signs like “I was teargased on school grounds” and “Our classmates live in fear,” Roosevelt High School students marched on Jan. 12, 2026. They went from the school building along 28th to 42nd and stood on the berm along Hiawatha Ave. before returning to the school building. They were not allowed back to class or to participate in school activities following the march.
After two days off, students in Minneapolis were back to school on Monday, Jan. 12 with an online option. On Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026 Roosevelt was a chaotic scene when border patrol agents used chemical irritants on students and staff at Roosevelt. A staff member was detained. This was following the shooting death of Renee Good at Portland and 35th earlier that day by ICE agent Jonathan Ross.
