The Nokomis East Neighborhood Association is thrilled to announce the launch of a Community Calendar on our website. Initially soft launching in July of 2026, NENA will be welcoming additional community partners to share their events on the calendar in this next phase.

After months of planning, we launched the first phase of the calendar this summer. As a small but mighty team, we wanted to get this right. Doing a soft launch ensured we were able to learn and adjust our processes before accepting and sharing additional events with broader partners. During this initial phase, we closely managed the Community Calendar by sharing events for select partners. Intentionally launching the calendar in a stepped-out approach allows us to effectively get information out in a clear and timely fashion.

The Community Calendar shares community wide events, beyond just those with NENA. We will continue to share NENA events through our events webpage and on our social media pages. The Community Calendar incorporates events hosted by our partners, and broader city and community events inclusive to all. Since July, we’ve been updating the calendar with events from a handful of select partners, and we’ve had great success! Now, we’re ready to go bigger by expanding the calendar events to include more community partners.

With a city as big as Minneapolis and all kinds of events happening daily, we know how important it is to stay up-to-date on relevant events. Our goal is to provide a centralized calendar to include information and details on events impacting the community. From public forums, to library events, and from important election days to community celebrations, we hope our neighbors find the Community Calendar a helpful resource to stay on top of events that matter most to them.

NENA Executive Director Sarah Friedman shares, “I want the calendar to help people feel like they belong here. We don't realize how diverse our community is until we get out there and meet new friends. Whether it's discovering a new resource, skill, or even meeting someone with a different perspective, these connections can help make our community an even better place to live.”

Organizations can submit their events using an online form accessed through the NENA website. The NENA team and a handful of hardworking volunteers will be entering community events on the calendar each week.

“There are so many things happening in our neighborhood, and I'm so proud to be able to help organize all of the amazing things that are happening in one spot,” continued Friedman. All kinds of events are welcome, and as an integrated Google calendar on our website, the Community Calendar is user-friendly, familiar to most and will be updated weekly.
